Our Achievements

All membership subscriptions, donations and money raised by the Friends are used to support projects for improving the quality of the whole estate. Since our founding in 1984 we have donated just under £500,000 in total. Some of the items and projects to which the Friends have contributed over the years are listed below.


 

In the House

  • Completion of a 50,000 piece Lego model of the House in three historic configurations

  • Major donation towards the purchase of a Rysbrack painting

  • Contribution to the purchase of chandeliers now hanging in the Saloon

  • Audio equipment for lectures

  • Purchase of IT equipment for staff to work from home during the recent Covid-19 outbreak

Special Projects/Funding

  • Camellia study

  • Security patrols prior to restoration

  • Cricket pitch survey

  • Laptops for Chiswick House and Gardens staff

  • Contribution towards educational appointment

  • Exhibition in North Lodge during the restoration

  • Archiving projects and materials

  • Matching Heritage Lottery funding for gardeners.

In the Gardens

  • Playground refurbishment

  • Restoration of the two large Coade stone vases in the Conservatory

  • Contribution towards the complete overhaul and restoration of the Cascade

  • Acquisition of a swan

  • Contribution towards restoration of the lions on the Staveley Road gates

  • Design and acquisition of two benches on the west face of the House

  • Design and acquisition of a memorial bench to Ted Fawcett at the Patte d’oie

  • Contribution to a chipper/shredder

  • Refurbishment of the Melon House

  • Restoration of the Rosary

  • Commissioning of a new statue of the Medici Venus on the Doric Column

  • Dog bins, dispensers and poop scoop bags

  • Bicycle for the Head Gardener

  • Electric buggy and its continued maintenance

  • Gardening tools for the Goosefoot volunteers

  • Restoration of the Ishmael statue in the Camellia House

  • Refurbishment of the Park Road gates
